Earlier reviews talk about the PowerShare USB 3.0 feature on the front port needing to be shut off. Power sequencing both on startup and shutdown could also be an issue. Can successfully drive two high res Samsung UE 590 4K displays along with a 4K laptop(Dell 5520), but sometimes have to bring monitors up one at a time, especially after docking and undocking. I run 1 DP off of the TB16 with HDMI directly off of the laptop. I have yet to successfully get both Display ports working simultaneously. One unit would not supply an evident 130w (Bios complained about insufficient power to the laptop), but at work, seems to work fine. Seems that power quality could be an issue. I bought two used units, both claimed to be tested and working. Dell no longer lists the TB16 on their website for updates. That. I assume that later updates and FW updates have helped. Unplug the dock from power and from the computer Hold the power button on the dock down for 45 seconds Plug everything back in Power up. Be aware that you could get one with problems. Several negative reviews, some from obvious corporate reviewers with multiple units. Dell bungled the last two docking stations for the Precision and other series. Hope this info is helpful for anyone else who may be experiencing this. Some problems, but got it (mostly) working. Everything is fine until I undock and need to redock again. The machine seems to have returned back to normal once this happens and I can restart VirtualBox and my VM as usual. I presume what's happening is VBoxSVC disappears once all the VirtualBox.exe processes have exited. ) I can see that my VM and VirtualBox processes are all children of VBoxSVC. Looking at Process Explorer (I can't open task manager because of some IT policy that requires admin rights. Clean the connections with a can of compressed air and then wiping the area around the connection with a soft, anti-static cloth. Disconnect any devices that are connected to the docking station. Unplug the docking station from the wall plug. If I put my VM in save state or shut it down, AND exit VirtualBox Manager, the dock's wired NIC and USB peripherals come back online after a slight delay (presumably as the system starts discovering the peripherals). Undock the computer from the docking station. Observations are pretty much the same, except I did not go as far as killing VBoxSVC.exe. Reproduction steps are the same as in the original ticket post.

I've updated all drivers as well as laptop BIOS (currently 1.6.0 as of the time of this post) and Thunderbolt Dock Firmware (NVM Firmware Version 33.00 at time of this post). You can undock the computer from the APR while the computer is either. I'm having what appears to be the same issue.ĭell Precision 5530 laptop with Dell TB16 Thunderbolt dock, Win 10 and VirtualBox 5.2.22. Save and close any open files and exit any open programs. Something in VirtualBox seems to "block the system from clearing the instance of the USB root hub driver from memory on the Thunderbolt disconnect".Īfter the problem has occurred (ie.
